SMS2Desk Application for BlackBerry Smartphones

by Brian – via mobilewhack.com.

One thing that any mobile phone owner would hate is missing a text message. The importance of text messages cannot be sorted out but regardless, generally putting them into practically the same degree of importance is what this new Blackberry software can do so you don’t have miss any of them again.

The application presents a simple, seamless solution that converts between text messages and e-mail so that BlackBerry smartphone users can read and reply to text messages as e-mails, both on their smartphone and when accessing their e-mail on a computer. The convenience of converting e-mail and text message communication allows users to work more efficiently and with greater ease.
“The addition of SMS2Desk into Cortado’s extensive portfolio of free services simply adds to the comfort and practicality of using mobile solutions,” says Roger Guerrero, Cortado Enterprise Sales Manager, North America. “Even when your smartphone is still in your pocket, SMS2Desk users can receive and answer text messages on their computer. Never miss a text message again!”
The SMS2Desk application is compatible with the following BlackBerry smartphones: BlackBerry 8700, BlackBerry Curve series, BlackBerry Pearl series, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm.

BeeJiveIM: JUST One Week Sale

If you are somehow unfamiliar with BeeJive, it is one of a handful of must have applications for any BlackBerry user, and is the only app that we fully recommend purchasing.

There is no better time than the next week to make said purchase; BeeJiveIM will be on sale from Midnight PT Monday, February 23, until Midnight PT Sunday, March 1. Twitter Blackberry

Twitter Blackberry

Twitter is one of the most popular online services, and recent traffic boom (just recently twitter reached digg’s market share) proves that. But what option do we have to Twitt on Blackberry? Some fast googline for “twitter” and “blackberry” reveals TwitterBerry as the most popular choice. TwitterBerry is free, easy mobile aplication for any BlackBerry (it works on most RIM devices from 7000, 8000 series, to Bold and even brand new Storm). What is really good, is that TwitterBerry allows you to psot updates and follow your friends thru dta network, supporting BlackBerry Internet Browsing Service (BIS-B or BIBS), BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and even direct TCP data connection (which means it will use WiFi when you are in coverage and connected to SSID), meaning you can stop spending your money on SMSs to update yourself…

TwitterBerry works on BlackBerry OS 4.1.0+ (but if you want TwitPic support, you better update to BlackBerry OS 4.2 and newer). It is a lightweight application, which you can install over the air (OTA), by following instructions on web page of producer, Orangatame Software.

TwitterBerry allows you to update your status, upload picture to TwitPic (just open media viewer, select the picture, and while in full scren mode, select “Send to TwitterBerry”. When TwitterBerry opens, just write the comment under the picture and submit – and you are done!).

With a single click from the BlackBerry home screen, you can input Twitter updates, follow and answer replies… Great feature is a timeline, that lets you view your latest posts and the last public posts of friends you are following.

You can access TwitterBerry faster via the BlackBerry menu key.

With version 0.7 and 0.8 you can now refresh friends’ timelines, replies and personal timelines from within application. Changes include also longer list of tweets (200 instead of 20), direct message sending and view your direct message inbox, new network indicator dialogs… You can mark tweets as favorite or delete them from any timeline. URLs in tweets can be selected and opened in your BlackBerry Browser

TwitterBerry can even automatically update Twitter streams and provide notifications. It allows you to set update period for data polling – from 1 minute to few hours. For hard core tweeters one poll per minute is recommended setting, and TwetterBerry is not responsible for not going beyond this, as Twitter itself limits the number of tweet requests to about 70 per hour. Therefore to avoid service interruptions on your Twitter account, TwitterBerry pulls less frequently. But – this limitation is just for data polling – Twitter does not limit the number of tweets you post.

You can download TwitterBerry from your BlackBerry. Just open browser and visit http://orangatame.com/ota/twitterberry/ on your BlackBerry, and follow with installation…

Hint: Save time and use shortcuts on all list screens: ‘r’ to reply, and ‘d’ to send a direct message! Enjoy! – via blackberry-report.com

The BlackBerry: On Top Again!

The BlackBerry: On Top Again!

by Robb Dunewood – via rimarkable.com – It’s been just 3 months since the iPhone took the top spot as not only the best selling smartphone, but, the best selling handset seeing it’s share shoot up to 30.1% of all smartphones in Q3 last year.  I remember some analyst saying that it was the beginning of the end for BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion.
Boy, what a difference can one quarter make.  According to an IDC report commissioned by The Industry Standard, RIM saw it’s market share increase from 40.4% to 47.5% in Q4.  Conversely, Apple saw it’s share drop from 30.1.% to 22.3%.  BlackBerry market share increased almost exactly by what iPhone share decreased.
I am not saying…  I’m just saying…

AP’s Mobile News Network Comes to BlackBerry

The Associated Press launched its Mobile News Network, a multimedia news portal designed for use on mobile devices, back in May. Now they’ve launched a client application optimized for BlackBerry smart phones, available for download over at bb.apnews.com.

The Mobile News Network is a big deal when it comes to mobile news. According to the AP, the portal received over 16 million page views in August 2008; over one million local news stories were read. In the following month, these numbers climbed to 26 million page views, with 1.5 million local stories read.

The Mobile News Network application works on the BlackBerry Curve, Pearl, and even the new Bold and Flip. It’s no wonder that BlackBerry, the favorite device of your typical business user, was the first device after the iPhone to receive a customized application version of the mobile news portal. iPhone users can find their MNN app in the App Store, while everyone else interested should simply point their mobile Web browser to apnews.com. – by Stan Schroeder – via mashable.com

BlackBerry Gemni 9300 Cell Phone Preview

via boygeniusreport.com – First there was “Pluto,” then were was “Magnum,” but now we’re talkin’ about something totally different — Gemini. What’s Gemini you ask? From what we’ve been told, the working model number is 9300, so that’s BlackBerry 9300. As you can imagine, the 9xxx line of BlackBerry devices is for 3G handsets and the Gemini won’t break that tradition. We’re told to think of this as the BlackBerry Curve “3G”. While we don’t have specifics on some of them, here’s a breakdown on what we know, and what specs we’ve got a hold of:

  • The screen will be larger than the BlackBerry 8900, and that will also include a higher resolution
  • The CPU will also be beefed up. We’re not sure if this means it will include something more powerful than the Bold’s 624MHz processor or not, but we’d like to think so.
  • The device is said to be silver (think BlackBerry 8830)
  • The keyboard is a little more rounded than the BlackBerry 8900
  • The Send/End keys are rounded instead of being flat on the sides
  • Styling is not drastically different — it keeps with the 8900/Storm styling
  • It of course rocks quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA
  • Wi-Fi and GPS was not confirmed, but we’d say there’s about a 99.99% chance
  • Camera specs were not confirmed as well, but you can bet you’re looking at 3.2 megapixels or better

Now, what about release date? We have absolutely nothing solid in terms of that. But, want our personal opinion? Q4 ‘09/Q1 ‘10. We really can’t see this one coming out anytime soon, it’s so far down the pipeline, they just released the current Curve replacement, etc. But it should let you guys know that RIM is obviously looking to transition all their devices to 3G (our opinion, not their words) over the course of the next year or so. Plus one of our only complaints about the 8900 was a lack of 3G, so bring it on!

Super duper shout out to our ninjas on this one!
